Overview
During this trip, you will visit two of Bhutan’s most developed western districts—Paro, home to Bhutan’s only international airport, and Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.
During your journey, you will have the opportunity to explore some of Bhutan’s most iconic cultural and historical attractions, including Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Point), the Takin Preserve, the Handmade Paper Factory, the National Institute for Zorig Chusum (Arts and Crafts School), the National Post Office of Bhutan, the National Memorial Chorten, the historic Tachog Zam (Old Iron Chain Bridge), Tachog Temple, the National Museum of Bhutan, and the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples.
The highlight of the trip is the unforgettable hike to the world-famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), dramatically perched on a cliffside and regarded as Bhutan’s most iconic landmark.
Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival at Paro International Airport – Drive to Thimphu
Experience breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas as you fly into Paro Valley (2,250 m), where snow-capped peaks welcome you to the magical Kingdom of Bhutan. On arrival at Paro International Airport, complete your visa formalities before being warmly greeted by your private guide, who will present you with a traditional white scarf (khadar) as a symbol of good wishes and hospitality.
Begin your scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital, passing through picturesque valleys, pristine rivers, and lush forests. En route, visit the historic Tachog Lhakhang (Tachog Temple) and have a glance on its iconic iron chain bridge, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage and traditional engineering.
Upon reaching Thimphu, take a leisurely walk through the capital city. Unlike most capitals in the world, Thimphu retains a peaceful atmosphere with no traffic lights, traditional Bhutanese architecture, and a relaxed pace of life.

Day 02: Thimphu to Paro Valley (64km/1hr).
Visit the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, a 51.5-metre-tall seated Buddha statue, popularly known as Buddha Point or Kuensel Phodrang, offering panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley.
Continue to the Royal Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal, the takin.
Drive to the National Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in memory of the Third Druk Gyalpo (King) of Bhutan. The chorten features three levels representing different meditational deities and practices of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition.
Visit the National Post Office of Bhutan, where you can experience the charm of traditional mail services and create personalized postage stamps featuring your own photograph. These stamps can be used to send postcards and letters to friends and family around the world.
Make a brief visit to the Traditional Handmade Paper Factory to see how Bhutanese handmade paper is produced using age-old techniques.
Sightseeing in Paro
Upon arrival in Paro, visit the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong), a unique cylindrical mud-and-stone structure that houses an extensive collection of Bhutanese art, artifacts, textiles, religious relics, and historical exhibits, offering fascinating insights into the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Explore Paro town which is in the way with traditional architectural design houses filled with souvenir shops.
Day 03: Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery & Visit Kyichu Lhakhang
The highlight of the journey awaits today with a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), Bhutan’s most sacred and celebrated pilgrimage site. Perched dramatically on a sheer cliff, this breathtaking monastery is closely associated with the 8th-century Buddhist master Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). According to legend, he flew to this site on the back of a tigress, manifesting in his wrathful form, Dorji Drolo, to subdue malignant forces and establish the teachings of Buddhism in Bhutan. Today, the monastery complex consists of several beautiful temples and shrines, each dedicated to different manifestations and enlightened activities of Guru Padmasambhava, making it one of the country’s most revered spiritual landmarks.
After completing the hike, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan. Believed to have been built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo, the 33rd King of the Yarlung Dynasty and founder of the Tibetan Empire, the temple is one of 108 shrines constructed across the Himalayas. According to Buddhist tradition, these temples were built to subdue a giant demoness whose body lay across the region, thereby paving the way for the spread of Buddhism throughout Tibet and the Himalayan kingdoms.
Kyichu Lhakhang remains an, important pilgrimage site and offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere rich in history, spirituality, and cultural heritage.
